Hey there world hows it hanging? I am a 20-something black jew from the Northeast Quadrant of Pennsylvania. If I am not mistaken there arent many of us especially in the beautiful Pocono region of the world. Not going to lie though I saw a black orthodox jew at the grocery store and followed him around and wanted to shake his hand but I held back.
My life hasnt been any different than most people although most people are surprised that my parents are still married and have been together for over 25 years. I am not being ignorant but when I was in college many people were surprised to find out that my mom is Jewish and my dad is black and the very next question was always, “Are they still married?” That says a lot about society.
I never thought my family was any different than any other family. We celebrate Christmas and Hanukkah. We celebrate Easter and Passover. On Christmas day my Jewish grandparents come to my house to look at our Christmas tree and then we eat a Turkey and a Ham (The most un-kosher food ever!)
I never questioned who I was. People always tell me im definately “more white.” I don’t find it offensive I just always considered myself both. I always checked both boxes during standardized testing if I couldnt check both Id leave it blank. I relax my hair while listening to Bon Jovi.
This is me!
